Fresh Air from WHYY, September 25, 2008 - In the 1947 film, It Happened In Brooklyn, Frank Sinatra plays a soldier who returns after four years at war and decides to pursue a singing career with some friends from the old neighborhood. Classical music critic Lloyd Schwartz reviews the recently-released DVD version of the film.
Forty Frank Sinatra movies are coming to DVD in May, many for the first time ever. The release, timed to celebrate the legendary singer and actor on the tenth anniversary of his death in May, 1998, brings together acclaimed and rare titles from Warner Home Video and MGM/Fox.
May will be Frank Sinatra month at Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which has named Sinatra its artist of the month and will be devoting more than 75 hours of programming, spread out over eight nights, to Sinatra’s films and television specials.
